Greetings, Durkee Families!
It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the Principal of Durkee Elementary. My connection to Houston ISD is both personal and professional, and I am incredibly proud to continue serving the district and communities that helped shape who I am today.
I am a proud product of Houston ISD. I attended Southmayd Elementary, Deady Middle School, and graduated from Milby High School. Because HISD played such an important role in shaping my life, I chose to pursue a career in education and give back by serving students and families in the same communities that helped me grow.
I am beginning my 16th year as an educator in Houston ISD. My career began at DeChaumes Elementary, where I taught first grade, second grade, and special education. I later joined Bonner Elementary as a Teaching Specialist, which provided me with the opportunity to grow as an instructional leader. I continued my leadership journey as an Assistant Principal at Anderson Elementary before joining the Durkee family, where I proudly served as Assistant Principal for the past two years. I am now honored and excited to begin this new chapter as Principal of Durkee Elementary.
From a young age, I knew I wanted to become an educator. I believe deeply in teaching children that their circumstances do not determine their future. With hard work, effort, perseverance, and the support of people who believe in them, our students can accomplish extraordinary things.
Elementary school is a critical stepping stone in a child's educational journey. It is where students develop the academic foundation, confidence, character, and love of learning that will carry them throughout their lives. At Durkee, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and academically challenging environment where every student is encouraged to learn, grow, and reach their fullest potential.
I believe that our greatest success comes when our school, families, and community work together. I look forward to building strong partnerships with each of you as we continue creating opportunities for every Durkee student to thrive.
